Eating Out: McDonalds

Can I eat at McDonald’s and still maintain a healthy lifestyle?

Fat food is the biggest minefield for dieters.   You are on the road and want something fast and your family chooses McDonald’s.  Although it is not the best choice, you can still control your portion size and eat somewhat healthy.

Breakfast:

Egg McMuffin

Egg McMuffin is what I would choose.  It can be with egg whites or whole eggs.  The whole egg version has 290 calories with 17 grams of protein and 2 grams of fiber.  Avoid the hash browns.

Lunch or dinner:

Hamburger Happy Meal

Get a kids hamburger meal.  Replace the fried with apple slices.  You will get out there with less than 390 calories.  It will have 12-13 grams of fiber and 2-3 grams of fiber.

Dessert:

Fruit Parfait

Get a yogurt parfait.  It only has 150 calories.  It also has 4 grams of protein and 1 gram of fiber.

There are other options on the menu.  You could also get a grilled chicken sandwich without condiments or a chicken salad without dressing.  Both would come in under 400 calories as long as you ask them to remove the fat-filled mayonnaise and dressing.  I personally would rather just eat my salads without stressing than eat fat-free.  Fat-free dressings taste like puke in my opinion.

The bottom line: You can even eat fairly heathy at McDonald’s.
