Food for Thought: Comfort Food

Comfort foods can add to your midsection.

The best comfort food will always be greens, cornbread, and fried chicken.

–  Maya Angleou

Comfort foods are foods we use to soothe our anxiety and depression.  They make us calm and increase endorphins.  For me, my comfort food is pizza or pepperoni rolls  Heck, I will take a good hot dog with chili.  I like salty and spicy foods.    Recently, I learned to eat my pizza with banana peppers instead of pepperoni.  If you can find a way to make it more healthy, you can eat them with a little moderation.  The problem is not the comfort food.  Instead, the problem is the volume of comfort food.

“Food is the most primitive form of comfort.”

-Sheila Graham

The bottom line: If you gorge on comfort foods, you will gain weight. If you cannot control your portion size, I recommend you avoid them all together.
