Grilling

Grilling

Today, we are overly focused on the nutritional content of our foods.  We also need to watch how we prepare them  It’s important to be aware of how we have cooked our foods because some methods can add calories or remove vitamins and minerals.   Today, you can buy just about any food or dessert fried, and most recipes call for your food to be cooked with some type of oil.   Some types of oil can actually be a healthy addition to your diet, but oil, in general, is packed full of calories.  Oil such as avocado, coconut, and olive oils, for example, have positive health benefits.  Despite the health benefits, adding too much to your food can really add calories over time.

Why should I avoid frying?  When foods are fried, they absorb a significant amount of fat.  Even if the meat is lean or the food low-fat item such as vegetable, frying ends up with a higher fat content.  Although I tend to say that calorie content is less important

if you choose foods wisely, but every calorie does smatter and fat is higher in calories.  Higher calorie intake from fried foods results in weight gain.  It becomes more difficult to manage a healthy weight program when fried foods are eaten regularly in the diet because it increases the calorie density and content.

Why is grilling better?  Grilled foods also have lower calorie content than fried foods. Grilling uses a foods natural moisture and fats to cook the foot.  There are no added fats unless you add them.  Grilled meats have a reduced fat content because the fat drips off as the food cooks and the grilling process adds additional flavor.  The loss of fat results in healthier meals that makes it easier to manage the fat content of your diet.  The best part is that the longer cook time ensures that as much of the vitamins and minerals are retained in the food when cooked.

The bottom line: Despite the health benefits, adding too much to your food can really add calories over time.  Grilling can help you manage your weight and keep fit. Grilling is healthy, and it contributes to good health and overall well-being.  I am not saying that olive oil is not a part of a healthy diet, but it should be used with some moderation.
