This list of ten drinks that will not extinguish your metabolic fire.

Empty calories are the enemy of weight loss. If you’re trying to lose weight, it is as important to watch what is in your glass as what is on your plate. Choosing a healthy beverage is as essential as anything you can do during your weight loss journey. The right choice can help curb your appetite and cut calories.

When used alongside healthy lifestyle changes, certain beverages are more effective than others at promoting weight loss and satiety. Not all beverages are created equal, and beverages like coffee, green tea, coffee, protein drinks, and water have been shown to boost metabolism, promote fullness and decrease hunger. Below are ten drinks that will help you lose weight, maintain weight loss, and improve your health.

  1. Water: Hydration is essential to keeping your body operating efficiently. Soft drinks are full of sugar and promote dehydration. Replacing them with water will cut hundreds of calories from your diet each day and increase hydration. Drinking more water with healthy meals will promote fullness or satiety.
  2. Green Tea: Green tea is a popular drink in China. Consumption of it has associated with better health. It is packed with antioxidants. Green tea is one of the most effective drinks for weight loss. Consumption of green tea increases metabolism and promotes satiety.
  3. Milk: Many beverages are high in calories and terrible for weight loss. Skim milk is both low in calories and nutritious. It is a great source of protein and calcium. In fact, dairy and milk promote satiety do you eat less and they have been linked to weight loss.
  4. Coffee: Coffee is the most popular drink in many counties including the United States. We all know that it tends to provide energy and keep us alert. It has been tied to a lower risk of mortality and morbidity from all causes. What many people don’t know is that coffee promotes satiety and increases your metabolism.
  5. Diet Soda: Diet soda can dehydrate you and it has been tied to obesity. That being said, it is essentially calorie-free. It can promote satiety and weight loss as long as you avoid dehydration and do not replace the calories cut.
  6. Vegetable Juice: Vegetable juice is a low-calorie juice that is full of nutrients. I rarely recommend juice, but vegetable juice is a great option. Making the juice in your own high power blender can retain the pulp which is the fiber. Choose wisely, because your store-bought vegetable drink may be high in sodium. Fiber will keep you full and reduce food intake.
  7. Black tea: This form of tea is fermented and like green tea or non-fermented tea, black tea contains compounds that may help with weight loss. Black tea, like green tea, is high in polyphenols that appear to promote higher metabolism and improved health. The best part is that is lower in caffeine is less dehydrating.
  8. Protein shakes: Protein shakes typically contain higher levels of protein which has been tied to higher levels of satiety. Some even have a balanced nutritional level and fiber to keep you even fuller for a longer period of time. A person who consumes more protein may consume fewer calories after a protein shake, and this could help with weight loss.
  9. Ginger tea and smoothies: People consume more ginger tend to feel fuller and be slimmer. People have taken ginger for centuries to improve digestive health. Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties. I added to to my smoothies regularly. Drinking a beverage of hot tea and ginger decreases hunger and increases the body’s ability to burn calories.
  10. Sparking or carbonated water: Carbonated or sparkling water is a great alternative to the sugary carbonated beverages that are the bane of a slim waistline. Carbonated water promotes satiety and is calorie-free. Like the non-carbonated variety, this beverage promotes weight loss.

The bottom line: No single drink can achieve weight loss on its own. There is no magic bullet for weight loss. Certain drinks will help promote weight loss. Anyone looking to lose weight would benefit from favoring these lower-calorie beverages. These lower-calorie alternatives tend to be more healthy.
