Halo Top: a little scoop of heaven?
There is nothing more satisfying than a bowl of creamy, dreamy, sweet ice cream that melts in your mouth on a summer day. I can remember my father mixing up a batch at the lake and the kids fighting to turn the crank to mix it. We were all salivating like rabid dogs at the thought of a bowl of this delicious treat.
Is there a healthy alternative that tastes just as good? I have heard it all before. I tried frozen yogurt and many of the “healthy” alternatives. I have tried just about all of these “healthy ice creams” and to be perfectly honest, they just don’t live up to the real thing. For weeks, I walked past Halo Top and decided to pass because of prior experiences. Most have either a terrible aftertaste, or the texture was just not right. To be honest, most left me unsatisfied and I either tossed it or ate way more than I intended because it just did not satiate the need.
This is not the case with Halo Top. I really like this stuff. The first time I tried it, I did not let it sit before eating it. Follow the instructions and let it sit and it will have near ice cream like smoothness. The surprising thing is that Halo Top is just like regular ice cream. I felt like I was eating full fat ice cream. The best part is that this stuff is an excellent source of protein and fiber. Even if you binge the whole four serving pint in one sitting, it only has 260-360 calories. In each serving, there are at least six grams of protein per serving and four grams of protein.

So how does it accomplish this feat? It is sweetened with erythritol and Stevia. To make it creamy, Halo Top is thickened with chicory root and various gums. It has natural ingredients, and for the most part, unless you are sensitive to chicory root (makes you toot) or milk products, you should have no side effects.
The bottom line: Halo Top is fantastic. I have tried all twenty-five flavors and have yet to find one I did not enjoy. I give it five stars out of five stars. It is slightly less sweet than inc cream, but I find that as a positive. The best part is that when I ate a whole pint, I did not feel like I had eaten a whole gallon.
