Healthy eating is key to weight loss.
Weight loss is not easy but it is even harder if you make poor decisions. I have always heard that “weight loss is 1% inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration”. The problem is that this could not be further from the truth. Weight loss success occurs in the kitchen and not in the gym.
The reason portion control is more effective than exercise in inducing a caloric deficit is that it takes a huge amount of exercise to create a deficit for one pound of weight loss per week. A single pound of weight loss is about 3500 calories per week or about 500-700 per day. That means if you walk for exercise, you would have to walk for nearly 2 hours per day at 4 miles per hour. If you run, you would have to run for about 45 minutes. You can quickly see that exercise alone will probably no get you there. The average person just cannot maintain this amount of exercise with their busy schedule.
